Are you on the journey towards a more sustainable and zero-waste lifestyle? One fantastic step you can take is creating your own face cleansing bar at home. Not only does it contribute to reducing packaging waste, but it also ensures that you’re using natural, skin-loving ingredients. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through a simple yet effective recipe for a nourishing face-cleansing bar.
Why Make Your Own Face Cleansing Bar?
- Zero-Waste Beauty: Creating your cleansing bar allows you to skip the plastic packaging of commercial products. This is a small but impactful step in reducing your environmental footprint.
- Skin-Loving Ingredients: The combination of cocoa butter, shea butter, buriti oil, and MCT oil is a powerhouse for your skin. These ingredients provide deep hydration, nourishment, and a gentle cleansing action.
- Customizable Scents: The addition of vanilla natural perfume not only adds a delightful fragrance but also allows you to customize the scent according to your preferences. Say goodbye to overpowering artificial fragrances!
The Recipe:
- 5 g of Olivem 1000 (emulsifying wax)
- 20 g of Cetearyl Alcohol
- 5 g of Cocoa Butter
- 5 g of Shea Butter
- 2.5 g of Buriti Oil
- 7 g of MCT Oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
- 5 g of Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate (Mild Nature-Derived Surfactant)
- 1 g of Vanilla Natural Perfume
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Emulsify and Stabilize:
- Begin by melting 5 g of Olivem 1000 and 20 g of Cetearyl Alcohol in a heat-resistant container. This forms the base of our cleansing bar, providing a smooth and stable texture.
2. Nutrient-Rich Butters:
- Add 5 g each of cocoa butter and shea butter to the melted mixture. These butters are rich in antioxidants and offer intense moisturization for your skin.
3. Nourishing Oils:
- Introduce 2.5 g of buriti oil and 7 g of MCT oil to the mixture. Buriti oil is known for its regenerative properties, while MCT oil ensures a lightweight and non-greasy feel.
4. Gentle Cleansing:
- Incorporate 5 g of Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, a mild surfactant derived from nature. This ensures that your cleansing bar effectively removes impurities without causing irritation.
5. A Touch of Fragrance:
- Enhance the sensory experience by adding 1 g of vanilla natural perfume. This not only imparts a pleasant scent but also brings a touch of luxury to your skincare routine.

Creating Your Cleansing Bar:
- Melting and Mixing: Heat the mixture gently until all ingredients are fully melted and well combined.
- Pouring into Mold: Transfer the melted mixture into a silicone mold, shaping it into your desired bar form. Silicone molds are great for easy removal and cleaning.
- Cooling and Setting: Allow the cleansing bars to cool and solidify at room temperature. This may take a few hours, so be patient – the results are worth it!
- Unmolding and Storing: Once fully set, carefully remove the bars from the mold. Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Congratulations, you’ve just crafted your very own zero-waste face cleansing bar! Enjoy the eco-friendly and skin-loving benefits of your personalized creation. This simple recipe is a fantastic introduction to the world of zero-waste beauty, and you’ll likely find it to be a rewarding addition to your skincare routine.
Hi you mentioned that you used soybean wax but you did not state how much you used , also it is not in the ingredients list. Thank you
Hi, Rachael! You are right – I am sorry, it is a mistake. I have made several iterations of this bar, and in first recipe I used 18% of Cetearyl alcohol + 2% of soybean wax, but the bar turned to be very hard, and soy wax also affected its cleansing properties (it doesn’t emulsify well on the skin), so I removed wax from the final recipe. However, I forgot to remove wax from the list of ingredients in the video, I apologize for the confusion. The correct recipe does not include wax.
