The Self-Emulsifying DIY Gel Scrub: A 2-in-1 Wonder
While there are countless scrub recipes available online, this DIY gel scrub stands out as a multi-functional beauty product. It seamlessly combines a gentle and all-natural gel-to-milk cleanser with a scrub, creating a fantastic 2-in-1 solution.
The secret ingredient that makes this transformation possible is Sucragel AOF, a remarkable emulsifier. This sugar-derived emulsifier is 100% biodegradable, gentle on your skin, and environmentally friendly. It’s the key to making a self-emulsifying scrub or cleanser. You can find Sucragel AOF on various websites.
A World of Possibilities
The basic recipe is straightforward, but the fun begins when you let your creativity run wild. You can create hundreds of unique products by experimenting with different aromas, colors, and exfoliators.
Strawberry Self-Emulsifying DIY Gel Scrub
For this particular scrub, I’ve chosen gentle and 100% natural exfoliating agents – strawberry seeds. A touch of red mineral mica adds a fruity visual appeal. If strawberry’s aroma isn’t your preference, you can opt for geranium and ylang-ylang essential oils to achieve a delightful floral scent. Alternatively, you can choose a natural strawberry fragrance for an authentic strawberry jam-like experience.
You can choose whatever vegetable oil you like – sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and more can be used. In this case, I’ve utilized fractionated coconut oil, also known as MCT oil or caprylic/capric triglycerides. It’s a lightweight, non-greasy, and stable oil, which makes the scrub easy to wash off and extends its shelf life. This is an excellent option for wash-off products.
I’ve included an oil-soluble preservative to protect your product from potential water contamination, ensuring its safety and long shelf life.
Strawberry Gel Scrub Recipe:
- 62 g of MCT oil (caprylic/capric triglycerides)
- 30 g of Sucragel AOF
- 5 g of Jojoba oil
- 0.6 g of strawberry perfume or essential oils
- 1 g of Spectrastat G2-N (an oil-soluble preservative; alternatives like Optiphen or Lexgard® Natural MB can also be used)
- 0.1 g of 98% tocopherols (Vitamin E)
- A pinch (approximately 0.05 g) of red mineral mica
